Competencies and Rubrics
TCU assesses four essential Core Curriculum learning outcomes. Each competency has a shared institutional rubric, a rotating assessment schedule, and a faculty assessment committee.
Critical and Creative Thinking
Analyze human experiences, cultural expressions, or creativity.
Communication
Share information effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Quantitative and Scientific Reasoning
Apply mathematical and scientific literacy skills or concepts.
Responsible Citizenship
Describe concepts or theories of social responsibility in diverse or global communities.
How the Rubrics Are Used
Faculty assessors, rather than individual course instructors, score sampled student work through a juried assessment process. Instructors may adapt a Core rubric for their courses, but they are not required to use it as their course-grading rubric.
