Quantitative and Scientific Reasoning

Students interpret and apply mathematical and scientific concepts and skills.


Current Status

The 2024-2025 assessment is complete. Reporting occurred during 2025-2026. The next planning year is 2026-2027, followed by data collection in 2027-2028.

Assessment Rubric

The rubric examines two connected areas: Interpretation, or understanding the situation and concepts involved, and Application, or identifying and using the tools necessary to address the situation.

The assessment met its institutional proficiency target and established a baseline for future cycles. Improvement priorities include assignment-rubric alignment, clearer distinctions among performance levels, and stronger evidence of application in selected courses.

Planned Actions

  • Clarify rubric language and examples for the Application criterion.
  • Strengthen norming and calibration for faculty assessors.
  • Offer targeted assignment-design workshops.
  • Develop common signature assignment frameworks for multi-section courses.
  • Create a repository of aligned assignments for faculty consultation.
  • Improve communication and coordination throughout the assessment cycle.
